About the Startup
Describe your product in 3 words.
One Click Print
How did you come up with the idea for this product?
We needed a 3D printer for a project back in college in 2012, so we built our own from scratch. 5 years later, 20,000+ customers, 4500+ cities, and 100+ countries, we have seen our product being used by some incredible people. When we designed these new machines, we listened to our customers, assembled a wish list of features, and built two new amazing 3D printers for this industry.
What makes your product special?
We have built an incredibly easy to use, smart, affordable, personal 3D printer that will empower our users to create better prototypes, models, figurines, replacement parts, or everyday items to help them conquer any task at hand.
What has been the best part of your startup experience?
The most incredible part of this experience aside from gaining a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience is the fact that we have a product that goes into the hands of amazing users all over the world and in return, we first hand get to hear the incredible stories of how they use their Robo 3D printer. It’s extremely motivating, empowering, and gives us so much pride. Our mission is to keep creating powerful 3D tools so you can do more. When you keep on creating, the world becomes a better

The Robo R2 was my first 3D printer and I purchased it (full price) after months of comparison and deliberation. Who wants to throw away $1500 on something that is going to break in 3 months or something you have to beg the manufacture to support their product? All that being said, I love this thing! It really is about the little things, like wifi, simple setup, and most importantly standing behind your product. From unboxing I was able to print within an hour. There were some growing pains as I figured out what to print and what supports were needed but since then I’ve printed dozens of things (examples in the attached pictures) with no problems.
The one thing that really cemented Robo for me was the fact that they actually took the time to email me to ask about my purchase. Originally I thought it was an automated message or a bot so I ignored it. However a few days later I was sent another email that was obviously not automated. One of my comments was about the fan noise of the original power supply. They mentioned it shouldn’t be as loud as I described and they shipped me a new one (that is completely silent) at no charge. That is truly good customer service. There are cheaper options out there, having them stand behind their product only increases my confidence in my purchase decision.

Based on the specs, this is the printer that had everything I wanted. To clarify, I’m the owner of a Flashforge Creator Pro already that works great but needs a lot of TLC to keep it going. The first Robo 3d R2 I bought from Amazon worked great for the first print and then it has issues feeding the filament, whether it was PLA or ABS (it would stop feeding and make tapping noises – searching the forums indicated many others had the same issue). Reading the forums, folks indicated to increase the nozzle temperature, which I did. It made it better, but it still occurred and I got tired of having prints fail after hours of printing. It’s not why I spent 1400 bucks. I returned the first printer for a replacement, which thanks to Amazon arrived promptly, well packed, etc. This printer had issues from the beginning in that when printing ABS the print bed would not heat up past 90 degrees ( I set it for 100 degrees). I would get an error message on the LCD screen asking me to reset the printer controls and that the heating function failed. I have contacted Robo3d, but it usually takes a couple of days to get a response and I doubt they have a cure. So very likely this one will go back also.
It would be a great product, but in my opinion their quality control is not where it needs to be. I doubt it is design issues as each printer has had different problems.
Too bad, this one would be great if it lived up to the specs/advertisement.
I consider myself to be a beginner but certainly not a novice.
I will update this review if the issue gets solved or if I decide to risk a 3rd replacement and it works.UPDATE: Well, I have to say I am very impressed with my personal outcome. Having had some issues with the R2 feeding filament and being unable to heat the printbed hot enough for ABS, I have to say that all my issues have now been resolved by what I have to say is a very impressive support organization at Robo3d. The filament feeding issue I was having was solved by printing at a slightly higher temperature than I was use to (210 for PLA instead of 190, 240 for ABS instead of 220). The issue of the printbed not getting hot enough to print ABS, and it failing with an error message, turned out to be fixed by a redesign of the print bed. Robo3d shipped me the new printbed and with 5 minutes of easy work I replaced the old one with the new one and voila, I am now printing PLA and ABS successfully and couldn’t be happier. Hard to find another fully assembled 3d printer with auto bed leveling, camera, wifi, and large print volume at this price point. Back that with excellent customer support, something that is mandatory with 3d printers, and I am very happy. I was one of the first to receive an R2, and it is a brand new printer, so some early adopter issues are expected. I feel Robo3d has worked through those and I have an excellent 3d printer in the R2 now. We use it for the high school 3d printing club and the students and I are very happy. Prints take time and the students being able to view the print in progress via the phone app is more useful than I ever thought! 5 Stars it is!

I had previously bought a fancy 3D printer for work and had spent ~$20k on it I wasn’t sure what to expect out of this model and have been more then pleasantly surprised! The print quality is nice and the setup is nice and easy out of the box. The first calibrations and setup are nice and easy to follow via the online video link and took about 20 minutes before my first test print. This printer has everything I need for the home tinkering and beyond, it even prints roof structures and overhangs well without the use of support material making it extra convenient to not have to throw your parts in a bath or pick at the support material. The touchscreen interface is a nice feature for performing material changes or any re-calibrations or transferring your files in (could also do file transfer wirelessly which was also a breeze to setup). Converting STL files to print files is relatively smooth with the free Cura app (downloaded from the website) and it lets you use 3 suggested print quality settings for your material (e.g. PLA, ABS) or use your own custom settings for things like heater nozzle and bed temps and speed. The lateral build size is a good size at 8×8 (wish it was a little bigger) and I considered the Lulz Taz 6 which has a bigger printing area but is almost 2x the price at $1000 more. At this price point this machine is hard to beat. So far (1 month in) so good and the company management (Braydon) has been super proactive and supportive in my purchase.

This printer came out of the box rockin’ and ready to print! I am a fifth grade teacher, and I use it in my classroom every day, or should I say the kids use it every day! The R2 has been incredibly easy for my students to use. They simply connect their Chromebook with the R2 through the wifi network and away they go, uploading prints! I literally have students bringing in .stl files on thumb drives or saving them to their Drive, so we can print the next morning! I am impressed with the quality of prints and love the fact I can show one student how to print and then they become the expert and show another student – and the process goes on and on.
Below are some pictures of prints we have done in class. The first one, two boys made a little library, but forgot the door, so we printed one!
Another picture shows a student helping another classmate learn how to print!
The third picture shows an artifact in our Social Studies book that a local artist (Eric Thorsen) helped recreate in a 3D file for us to print!
